Level 1: An Evidence Based Approach
This fundamental level introduces the basic concepts of acupuncture treatment including the neuroanatomical, evidence-based and basic meridian approach to common musculoskeletal conditions. Safety issues and potential complications from acupuncture treatments will be discussed. There will be ample opportunities to practice safe needling in small group sessions and visualizing the acupuncture point in the anatomy lab.
Core Courses (1A20, 1B20 and 1C20)
Introduction to Acupuncture

Regional Approach to Acupuncture
Course 1B20. Extremities Problems
This course will familiarize students with the common acupuncture points for upper and lower limb problems. Presentations will include clinical trials done on these common conditions and the protocols evaluated. Evidence based reviews of conventional treatment will also be discussed. There will be a sufficient amount of time in small group practice sessions and the anatomy lab for students to become competent in point locations and needling techniques for problems in these regions.
Pre-requisite: Course 1A20

This course will familiarize students with the common acupuncture points for headaches, common neck and back problems. Presentations will include clinical trials done on these common conditions and the protocols evaluated. Evidence-based reviews of conventional treatment will also be discussed. There will be sufficient amount of time in small group practice sessions and the anatomy lab for students to become competent in point locations and needling techniques for problems in these regions.

At the end of the course, students will be comfortable in applying acupuncture to most common MSK problems they encounter in their practices.
Pre-requisite: Course 1A20, 1B20 and 1C20.
